After obtaining an engineering degree from the École Centrale de Lyon, Renaud Fillieule studied philosophy (master’s degree at Paris IV in 1988), sociology (doctoral thesis at Paris IV in 1994), and economics (DEA at Paris I in 1992). His PhD reflects his interest in these different disciplines as it deals with the question of rationality in sociology, anthropology, economics, cognitive psychology and philosophy of science. After becoming Professor at University of Lille I, he turned to the sociology of crime, the economics of the Austrian school and more recently to economic sociology.
